CARNIVAL OF ORURO
“FIESTA DE LA VIRGEN DEL SOCAVON”

The Carnival of Oruro is unique in the world for its religious and cultural sense. This inspired one for the Candlemas's Virgin or of the Tunnel which motivates year after year one of the biggest events in cultural expression of Latin America, the Carnival of Oruro that is also one of the main parties in Bolivia.
The year 2001 the UNESCO declared it “Masterpiece of the Humanity's Oral and Intangible Patrimony”; recognizing this way the religious and cultural value that expresses this festivity through the music and the dance.
During this festivity they become present the faith of the dancers and the prodigious work of the artisans; both constitute the biggest attractiveness in the party.

Folkloric capital of Bolivia

The title of "folkloric Capital of Bolivia" or "Oral and intangible Patrimony of the Humanity" declared by the UNESCO, they show the importance that has this carnival.
This Carnival has an impressive quantity of folkloric processions that participate in this festivity religious - pagan that is exalted in the cordillera cultures where the faith in the supernatural thing appears bound to its customs.
The folkloric groups that participate in the carnival of Oruro, traditionally have been few, but thanks to the popularity that distinguishes to this great party, with time these groups have gone fragmenting to give origin to others of the same characteristics. However there are other groups that have been organized with the same religious faith to incorporate to the acts in honor of the Sacred Virgin of the Tunnel. At the moment they arrive to the means hundred of groups that contain thousands of dancers.
Inside the dances we can mention among the most important:

The Morenada. - it is one of the dances but representative of our culture, like one says in the Andean culture to dance Morenada one debit side to have money, to be "Cocani or Ferrari" and to be willing to load a suit of 500 dollars and a weight that it exceeds the 15 kilos, the gear of the women is on the other hand a little but simple but even so it also exhibits the wealth of the Andes.
Well-known group originally with the name of the Brown ones, it is with security a later contribution in the carnival, nevertheless that their origin is explained in the scenario of the Spanish colonization that care black especially of Guinea believing them stronger for the works in the mines of Oruro and Potosí, also in tasks tame in substitution of the native mitayos.
The dance is a satire to the methods used by the conquerors in the mining and other little the melancholic manifestation or denounces of the sufferings like slaves.

 


The Diablada. -
The dance of the Diablada has its origin in the colonial time and it represents the fight between the good and the bad. The Diablada, according to the tradition, as a material fact with deep religious inspiration, leaves of the discovery of the miraculous image of the Candlemas's Virgin in the famous thief's refuge NINA NINA, probably in the XVIII century, when the miners of Oruro solved to declare it Protector Mother of the hard-working town, and in fact the dance of devils for not causing the anger of the "UNCLE" of the mine. The mestizo dance is also represnted as "Catholic Tale". Tale of the devils that has in its interior a mystic plot sustained by the belief, conception of fight of the good against the bad, it fights to death between the infernal legion and the archangel Miguel that gave peace to all, with kindness and beauty.

 


The Pujllay. -
Pujllay means game in Quechua language, it is a time of party among the local people of the town, an agricultural party of the crop and of the fertility of the earth. This dance is characterized for taking some wooden shoes with platform and very sharp spurs.
It represents the gwoning method of the flora in the fields where the party begins with the ch'alla with diverse ceremonies of fecundity, it is carried out in February or March, and it is characterized by its music and typical gear corresponding to the region of Yamparaez Department of Chuquisaca, autochthonous dance of Tarabuco.
The rhythmic rhythm of the Dance, executed originally by instruments of wind, it has been replaced at the present time by Bands of Music.

The Caporales. - Stylized Dance of agile rhythm belonging to the skirt, El Caporal, represents the mulatto (mixture of black race with white) that when exercising his work of "CAPANGA" (preferred of the pattern, resentful he becomes executioner of his own race in beadle's function or Foreman) that controls the production of citric and coca plantations in tropical areas of the Yungas, causing martyrdom with whip in hand to black slaves (fettered to thick chains they cause rhythmic and weary sounds), immune to the pain, attitude, insensitive and insubordination, transformed into worthless and superb Leader.

This tour begins with the picking up of the tourists from the hotels at 03:30 a.m. to go through a highway asphalted to the city of Oruro, located to 230 Km. of the city of the La Paz, in the itinerary we will have the breakfast, arrival to Oruro and accommodation in the boxes of the Avenue of the folklore and to appreciate of the wonderful and colorful festivity, to half-day we have the lunch and in the afternoon we will continue enjoying each moment to the music's compass and of the different typical dances.
